Gaza on the Brink: UN Warns of Total Collapse Amid Strikes and Blockade

BY LISA NYAMBURA

Gaza’s humanitarian crisis has worsened dramatically as Israeli military operations and a full blockade continue, leaving 2.2 million people without access to basic necessities.

According to the UN Human Rights Office, living conditions have deteriorated to a critical point, with widespread shortages of food, clean water, and electricity.

Bakeries across Gaza have shut down due to the lack of flour and gas, forcing food prices to skyrocket. Social order is breaking down as desperate residents fight over limited resources.

With no functional law enforcement and targeted strikes dismantling the justice system, the risk of complete societal collapse grows daily.

The situation worsened when Israeli forces reportedly bombed essential humanitarian equipment, including excavators, water trucks, and sewer cleaners, between April 21 and 22.

The UN condemned these attacks, warning that the destruction of vital infrastructure further cripples Gaza’s ability to respond to emergencies, exacerbating the threat of disease and death.

Civilian casualties continue to rise. Between March 18 and April 22, Israeli strikes destroyed 229 residential buildings and 91 tents for displaced families.

Notably, a strike in North Gaza killed 13 members of two families, including eight children.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank, settler violence against Palestinian villages has intensified, often under the watch of Israeli security forces.

Several communities have reported attacks, arson, and shootings, further escalating tensions.

The UN is calling for urgent international intervention to halt the violence, investigate alleged war crimes, and protect civilian lives before the humanitarian situation worsens even further.
