Hot Air Balloon Crash Near Teotihuacan Injures Twelve Tourists

At least twelve people were injured on Friday after a hot air balloon made a forced landing near the ancient city of Teotihuacan, a popular archaeological site located just outside Mexico City, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred in San Martin de las Pirámides when the balloon encountered an air pocket, forcing an emergency descent. The civil protection agency for the state of Mexico confirmed the crash in an official statement, noting that emergency services responded swiftly to treat the injured.

The state’s Attorney General’s Office announced that a 29-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the incident. Authorities have not released details regarding his role, but an investigation is currently underway.

Teotihuacan, home to the iconic Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, was once one of the largest urban centers in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. The site attracts thousands of tourists each year, with hot air balloon tours offering a bird’s-eye view of the sprawling ancient ruins.

This is a developing story, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
