A week-long search for a missing Naivasha-based medic has ended in tragedy after her decomposing body was discovered buried in a shallow grave within her compound in Raini village, Naivasha.
Jane Wambui Njoroge, a clinical officer and paediatrician at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, had been reported missing last week. Her body was exhumed on Thursday following the arrest of her house-help, who is believed to be connected to the gruesome murder.
Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Antony Keter confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect led detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to the burial site. “The family made a report of a missing person, and after investigations, we arrested one suspect who led us to the scene. We are pursuing more suspects,” said Keter.
Initial investigations suggest Wambui may have been killed with a blunt object. Emotions ran high as the body was recovered, with friends, relatives, and neighbours struggling to come to terms with the shocking end to the medic’s life.
Her husband, John Kimani, who works in Kitale, said he last spoke to his wife on Friday before learning on Sunday that she was missing. “She had been suffering from cancer, and when I got the call, I allowed people to break into the house, but they found nothing,” he recounted.
Kimani expressed disbelief over the arrest of their house-help, whom they had supported after she fell into financial hardship. “She was once our tenant. We took her in out of kindness, and now this…”
Church members from PCEA, where Wambui worshipped, also joined the search. “We are devastated. She never missed church,” said Rev. Nancy Wanjiku.
Investigations into the murder are ongoing.
