The Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency today led a high-level delegation to inspect and verify the progress of key national government projects in Kakamega County.
The extensive tour covered housing, road infrastructure, and water and sanitation projects, reinforcing the government’s commitment to efficient service delivery.
The inspection began at the Affordable Housing Project in Milimani, Kakamega Town, overseen by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development. Valued at KES 472 million, the project comprises 220 units, including studio, one-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments, and is currently 78% complete.
Attention then shifted to the Malava-Kimang’eti-Ikoli Road, a 10.4 km upgrade by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), funded at KES 542 million.
The project is 88% done, with procurement underway to engage a new contractor to finalize the remaining 2.6 km.
The delegation also reviewed two major water projects under the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency (LVNWWDA).
These include the Malava Water Supply and Sanitation Project (Lot 1), featuring a 45.2 km water network and treatment plant at a cost of KES 886 million, and the Namagara Water Project (Lot 2), which involves a 22 km pipeline, a 1,858 m³/day treatment facility, and a 1,700 m³ reservoir, valued at KES 844 million.
The team proceeded to assess the Kakamega–Navakholo–Musikoma Road, a strategic 92 km corridor constructed by KeRRA at a total investment of KES 3.5 billion.
In Iguhu, the delegation inspected the Kakamega Gold Refinery Project, a KES 5.8 billion initiative by the State Department for Mining aimed at adding value to the region’s mining activities.
Further evaluations were conducted on the 37 km Lunza–Shiraha–Ikolomani–Manyulia–Ikonyero–Akatsa–Eshibinga Road, being upgraded by China International Water and Electric Corporation at a cost of KES 1.7 billion, and the Lunza ESP Market project, valued at KES 117 million.
