Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has resumed his official duties after a 60-day absence from office, imposed by the court as part of bail conditions in a corruption case.
Natembeya had been barred from accessing his office in May after pleading not guilty to charges related to irregular payments totaling Ksh3.2 million allegedly made by the county government to two private firms. The court had directed him to step aside temporarily to allow the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the matter without interference.
On Monday, the governor was welcomed back by county staff at the Trans Nzoia County headquarters in Kitale. In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Natembeya said he had returned “recharged and determined” to fulfill his development agenda.

“No one will shake our resolve to rewrite our story,” he wrote. “We are determined to fulfil every campaign pledge and ensure that the people of Trans Nzoia continue to enjoy the benefits that devolution has brought.”
He dismissed those he believes are working to undermine his administration, vowing not to be distracted. “If I were to give in to fear, I would be failing the very people who entrusted me with leadership,” he said. “We will not be moved.”
Natembeya also called for unity among residents and Kenyans at large, urging collective focus and resilience in the face of challenges.
Investigations into the graft allegations are ongoing.
