Bomet Assistant County Commissioner Arrested Over Alleged Ksh. 20,000 Bribe

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Bomet County Assistant County Commissioner over allegations of soliciting a Ksh. 20,000 bribe to settle a local dispute.

EACC officers based in Nakuru said the operation targeted Emkwen Division Assistant County Commissioner, Martin Vaslaus Jakoyo, who was apprehended and booked at the Bomet Central Police Station.

According to a police report, the administrator allegedly demanded the bribe to resolve a disagreement between two villagers, despite the matter having already been settled by Nyumba Kumi elders.

Following the arrest, several chiefs from Bomet Central Sub-county, speaking on condition of anonymity, accused the suspect of frustrating ongoing efforts to curb the production and sale of illicit brews in the region. They further claimed he had been using his office to pursue personal interests at the expense of community welfare.

The EACC has yet to release further details on the case, which is expected to be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for review and possible charges.
