80-Year-Old Man Killed in Suspected Land Dispute in Kisumu

An 80-year-old man, Mzee Barack Ochuka, was killed on Monday evening in Onono Village, Kawino North Location, Kadibo Sub-County, following a violent land dispute with his stepbrothers.

According to police reports, Ochuka was attacked with crude weapons, sustaining severe wounds to the head, back, and arms. His son, Calvin Ochieng, who tried to intervene, was also stabbed in the chest and is receiving treatment at Nyang’ande Sub-County Hospital.

The suspects, identified as Lawrence Onyuka, 38, and Tobias Onyuka, 35, reportedly fled the scene as villagers pursued them in retaliation. Lawrence narrowly escaped and sought refuge at Rabuor Police Station, while Tobias was caught and beaten by the public, sustaining serious head injuries.

Both suspects were later arrested and taken under police guard to Ahero Sub-County Hospital. Authorities confirmed they will face charges once discharged.

Police have called on residents to remain calm as investigations into the deadly incident continue.
