Police in Vihiga County have launched a manhunt for Constable Kevin Omondi, who allegedly shot dead his colleague Nicholas Samoei while guarding a government fertilizer depot in Esirabe, Luanda Sub-County.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, with residents reporting gunshots between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.

When neighbors rushed to the scene, they found Samoei lifeless with a gunshot wound to the head.

Omondi initially claimed his colleague had shot himself but fled soon after, switching off his phone. Police recovered the firearms of both officers and ruled out suicide.

The body was moved to Vihiga County Referral Hospital mortuary as investigations continue. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and assist with information that could lead to Omondi’s arrest, describing him as armed and dangerous.
