Governor Wanga Signs MoU With Charlene Ruto’s Foundation

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Charlene Ruto’s Smart Mechanized Agriculture and Climate Action for Humanity and Sustainability (SMASCHS) foundation.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 28, Governor Wanga said the signing of the MoU took place on the sidelines of the National World Food Day celebrations in Kendu Bay.

The Homa Bay Governor explained that the agreement with the SMASCHS foundation aims to promote, expand, and sustain apiculture activities across the county.

“We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SMART Mechanized Agriculture and Climate Action for Humanity and Sustainability (SMASCHS) to promote, expand, and sustain apiculture activities throughout the county.

“The signing ceremony took place with the founder and director of SMASCHS, Ms Charlene Ruto, on the sidelines of the National World Food Day celebrations in Kendu-Bay,” said Governor Wanga.

The SMACHS Foundation is a non-profit organization that empowers young people to take the lead in the fight against hunger and climate change in Kenya.

The Charlene-led foundation runs initiatives such as model farms, beekeeping programs, youth engagement, and training centers.

The foundation is also engaged in ecosystem restoration and conservation, climate education and awareness, climate advocacy and youth leadership, as well as sustainable innovation and green solutions to support climate action.

Homa Bay County’s agreement with SMARCHS foundations comes months after Governor Wanga signed a landmark (MoU) with Taloya Technology Limited of China.

In a statement, Wanga said the agreement includes water reticulation to over 250,000 households, installation of 4,000 solar street lights in towns and markets, and delivery of a Mega Shopping Mall.

The Chinese company will also construct a 5-star hotel to boost trade, tourism, and enhance job creation in Homa Bay.

“Today, we made history by signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Taloya Technology Ltd of China to deliver a transformative Integrated Development Project in Homa Bay. This partnership will bring clean water to over 250,000 households, install 4,000 solar street lights across our towns and markets, and deliver a Mega Shopping Mall alongside a 5-star hotel to boost trade, tourism, and job creation,” Wanga said on July 1.
