UEFA confirms unprecedented plans for ending Champions League and Europa League campaigns

UEFA has announced its unprecedented plans to complete this season’s Champions League and Europa League campaigns amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The four remaining last-16 second leg ties, including Man City vs Real Madrid, will happen on August 7 and 8.

Paris St Germain, Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig and Atalanta are the only four clubs who have guaranteed places in the quarter-finals.

UEFA is yet to confirm whether those matches will take place at the clubs’ host stadiums or in Portugal.

Meanwhile, the culmination of the Europa League will occur from August 10 to 21 across four venues in Germany.

UEFA is set to decide by mid-July if supporters will be able to attend those Champions League and Europa League games.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: “If I would answer today, we don’t think we could have spectators at the Champions League or Europa League finals, but things are changing rapidly.

“We will assess the situation at the beginning of July and we will see what the situation will be.

“It would be incompetent from us if we were to decide in advance about the situation.

“I am delighted that we are able to resume almost all of our competitions.
