Across 20 counties, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) supporters and aspirants are casting their votes in one of the largest internal party elections in Kenyan history. President William Ruto, UDA’s party leader, voted this morning at Koilel Primary School in Uasin Gishu County, signalling strong high-profile engagement in the polls. The exercise is widely seen as a litmus test of the party’s organisational strength ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In the politically pivotal Mt Kenya region, governors and party leaders, including Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, have urged robust turnout, emphasising that the elected grassroots leaders will influence delegate structures and party strategy in the coming years.

The party’s Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee is on standby to address complaints, ensuring transparency and fairness in what is a highly competitive contest. Observers note that the results of these elections could reshape internal leadership dynamics and serve as a barometer of loyalty and influence ahead of national polls.
