The Judiciary has expanded access to justice by establishing new Small Claims Courts in 15 counties across Kenya, a move aimed at improving the resolution of commercial disputes and easing the workload of regular courts.
According to the announcement, the newly established courts will handle small civil and commercial claims, allowing individuals and businesses to resolve disputes more quickly and efficiently.
The Small Claims Courts have been set up in the following stations:
Maua Law Courts – Meru County
Mumias Law Courts – Kakamega County
Molo Law Courts – Nakuru County
Kapsabet Law Courts – Nandi County
Ngong Law Courts – Kajiado County
Kenol Law Courts – Murang’a County
Kiambu Law Courts – Kiambu County
Mavoko Law Courts – Machakos County
Makueni Law Courts – Makueni County
Kilifi Law Courts – Kilifi County
Kikuyu Law Courts – Kiambu County
Vihiga Law Courts – Vihiga County
Homabay Law Courts – Homa Bay County
Bungoma Law Courts – Bungoma County
Nyamira Law Courts – Nyamira County
Small Claims Courts are designed to provide faster, simplified, and cost-effective resolution of disputes, particularly those involving small monetary claims by individuals, traders, and small businesses.
The expansion is part of the Judiciary’s ongoing efforts to decentralize court services and bring justice closer to communities, especially in areas where access to courts has traditionally required long travel distances.
The courts are expected to help reduce case backlogs while providing a quicker dispute resolution process for matters that fall within the monetary jurisdiction of the Small Claims Court framework.
