More than 45,000 registered voters in the Emurua Dikirr constituency, Narok County, will go to the polls on May 14, 2026, to elect their new MP.
This comes after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) set the date to conduct the exercise to replace Johanna Ng’eno, who died in a helicopter crash.

The electoral agency will also hold mini-polls in two wards in Samburu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties on the same day.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula issued writs on March 10, 2026, paving the way for the commission to set the date.
“By-elections will be held in the following electoral areas: Member of National Assembly for Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County and Member of County Assembly: Porro Ward in Samburu County and Endo Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County,” the IEBC gazette notice reads.
According to the schedule issued by the commission, public servants eyeing any of the three seats must resign within seven days from today, while candidates planning to run as independents should not be members of any political party at least three months before the polls.
“Each political party intending to participate in the by-elections shall submit the names of the persons contesting in a party primary and the date of the party primary on or before Wednesday, March 25, 2026,” the notice reads in part.
It adds: “Candidates intending to participate in the by-elections as independent candidates shall submit their names and symbols that they intend to use during the by-elections for purposes of nomination of independent candidates to the commission on or before Wednesday, March 25, 2026.”
Political parties intending to present candidates in the by-elections through indirect nominations shall submit the list of persons nominated to contest in the by-elections to the commission on or before Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
IEBC chairman Erastus Ethekon has appointed Caleb Siriba Gekendo as Emurua Dikirr Returning Officer, and he will be deputised by Sylvia Jepchumba.
Last week, the IEBC chairman told Parliament that the agency is seeking Sh59.38 million to conduct the by-election in Emurua Dikirr.
The seat fell vacant following the untimely demise of Johanna Ng’eno, who perished in a helicopter crash in Mosop on February 28.
The IEBC told MPs that the Sh59.38 million required for the contest was not included in the Supplementary I budget estimates, forcing the commission to seek additional funds from Parliament.
