Senate Demands Answers on Talanta Sports City Scandal

The Committee emphasized the urgent need for transparency, accountability, and adherence to legal frameworks.

The Kenyan Senate has raised serious concerns regarding the Talanta Sports City project after its cost skyrocketed from Kshs. 35 billion to Kshs. 45.85 billion.

The Senate Standing Committee has formally written to Sports Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Salim Mvurya, demanding a detailed explanation following issues flagged by the Auditor-General.

Key irregularities highlighted include:

A lack of documentation justifying the additional Kshs. 10.85 billion.

The contract was awarded through direct procurement, bypassing required competitive tendering laws.

The project lacked mandatory clearance from the Attorney-General for contracts exceeding Kshs. 5 billion.

The Committee emphasized the urgent need for transparency, accountability, and adherence to legal frameworks.
