President William Ruto has nominated a new chairperson and members to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), in a move aimed at strengthening national unity and addressing ethnic divisions.
In a press release issued by the Executive Office of the President under Notification of Presidential Action No. IX of 2026, the Head of State named Mr. Kepha Nyamweya Omae as the nominee for chairperson of the commission.
The President also nominated seven individuals to serve as members of the commission, subject to approval by the National Assembly. They include Ms. Josphine Kirion Eragae (Isiolo), Mr. Joseph K. Nguyo (Nyeri), Mr. Jackson Swadi Kedogo (Vihiga), Dr. Samuel Mwachiro Mwawasi (Taita Taveta), Ms. Irene Chepoisho Tuel (West Pokot), Mr. Hassan Billow Ahmed (Wajir), and Ms. Jerusah Mwaathime Michael (Kitui).

According to the statement, the nominations were made in line with recommendations from a selection panel tasked with identifying suitable candidates for appointment to the commission.
The appointments are part of the regular process of strengthening key constitutional bodies, with the NCIC playing a critical role in promoting national cohesion, peaceful coexistence, and addressing issues such as ethnic discrimination and hate speech.
The President has since forwarded the nominations to the National Assembly for consideration and approval, urging Parliament to prioritise the process.
The announcement was signed by Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei.
