Relief as court suspends removal of FKF committee member Abdullahi Yusuf

By Andrew Kariuki

Abdullahi Yusuf, a member of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee, has obtained conservatory orders stopping his removal from office and any interference with his role.

In Constitutional Petition No. E032 of 2026, Yusuf moved to the High Court in Kiambu challenging resolutions allegedly passed on April 24, 2026 requiring him to step aside.

Through his lawyer Danstan Omari, Yusuf argues that the process leading to the decision was unlawful and unconstitutional.

The court, in orders issued on April 28, 2026, restrained the FKF National Executive Committee from “suspending, removing or in any manner interfering with the position of the Petitioner… pending the hearing and determination” of the application.

It further directed that any action already taken against him be reversed, effectively restoring the status quo before the disputed resolutions.

According to court documents, Yusuf contends that he was not notified of the meeting that led to the resolutions and was denied an opportunity to be heard.

He argues that this violated his constitutional rights, including the right to fair administrative action and a fair hearing, maintaining that the process offended the principles of natural justice.

The petition further indicates that the contested decisions extended beyond his removal and affected leadership structures within FKF, including directives touching on the federation’s administration.

The court certified the matter as urgent and directed parties to file responses ahead of further directions on the hearing of both the application and the main petition.

The case now places focus on governance within FKF and raises broader legal questions on adherence to constitutional standards and due process in the management of sports institutions.
