The High Court has postponed the eagerly awaited judgment in the murder case involving former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and two others.
In an official notice dispatched from the Milimani High Court Criminal Division registry, the judiciary informed the legal teams and the prosecution that the verdict, which was scheduled for delivery on May 29, 2026, has now been pushed to July 23, 2026.
According to the communication signed by the Deputy Registrar, the trial judge deferred the matter due to unavoidable and unforeseen circumstances.
The court has subsequently extended the bonds and cash bails of the accused persons until the new date, when they are all required to appear physically in court for the final verdict.
This high-profile criminal case, registered as HCCRC 46 of 2018, follows the tragic September 2018 murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.
Former Governor Obado is charged alongside his former personal assistant Michael Oyamo and former Migori County clerk Caspal Obiero. All three individuals have maintained their innocence throughout the long-running trial, which concluded its main hearings after dozens of state witnesses testified.
The postponement injects a fresh twist into the legal calendar for the former county chief, coming just weeks after his separate KSh 73.5 million corruption case was formally concluded following a successful plea bargain agreement with the state.
Members of the public and legal analysts will now have to wait until late July to find out the ultimate fate of the three accused persons as the Judiciary finalizes the writing of the landmark judgment.
