Efforts to enhance transport connectivity and spur economic growth in North Eastern Kenya received a significant boost as the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) North Eastern Region hosted Garissa County Governor H.E. Nadhif Jama during an inspection tour of the ongoing Tana River Bridge and Kismayu Road projects.
The inspection was led by KeNHA North Eastern Regional Director, Eng. Franklin Kipyator, alongside project teams overseeing the implementation of the critical infrastructure developments.
The visit provided an opportunity for stakeholders to assess the progress of construction works and discuss strategies for strengthening collaboration in the delivery of transformative infrastructure projects across the region. The projects are expected to improve mobility, facilitate trade, and enhance access to essential services for residents and businesses.
Speaking during the tour, Governor Nadhif Jama expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved so far and commended the efforts of KeNHA and contractors working on the projects. He emphasized the importance of modern road infrastructure in unlocking the economic potential of Garissa County and the wider North Eastern region.
“The successful completion of these projects will significantly improve connectivity, ease transportation challenges, and support socio-economic development for our communities,” the Governor stated.
The new Tana River Bridge is expected to enhance movement across one of the region’s most important transport corridors, while the upgrading of Kismayu Road will improve accessibility within Garissa and support commercial activities by providing a more efficient transport network.
Eng. Kipyator reaffirmed KeNHA’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure that meets the needs of the region and contributes to national development goals. He highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between national and county governments in ensuring the successful implementation of infrastructure projects.
The inspection underscored the shared commitment between KeNHA and the Garissa County Government to advancing infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth, regional integration, and improved livelihoods.
Once completed, the Tana River Bridge and Kismayu Road projects are expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing connectivity, facilitating trade, and supporting sustainable development across North Eastern Kenya.
