Gachagua says he is ready for any outcome as court to deliver impeachment verdict on Monday

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua says he is ready for the High Court verdict on his impeachment case, which is set to be issued on Monday, June 8.

Gachagua, a former Deputy President, was impeached on October 17, 2024, after the Senate found him guilty of charges including violation of the Constitution and gross misconduct.

The former DP would later move to court, arguing that he was never accorded a fair hearing and that there was inadequate public participation before his removal from office.

Speaking during a church service in Karen on Sunday, Gachagua expressed confidence that he would get justice through the independence and impartiality of the Judiciary.

“We are ready for whatever outcome, if the three judges rule that we were treated unfairly and against the law and the constitution, and lift the impeachment and let us be, we shall be grateful to God, and we shall be very grateful that there is a justice system in Kenya that works,” Gachagua told congregants.

“I have confidence that our judiciary is independent and impartial and would give justice to Rigathi Gachagua and millions of his supporters across the country,” he added.

However, if the ruling is not in his favour, the former DP has vowed to appeal his impeachment case.

The DCP party leader called on his supporters to remain calm regardless of the outcome – just like they were when he was removed from office.

Rigathi urged his supporters not to engage in any violent and illegal activities but to express their anger at the ballot box come August 2027.

On Monday, a three-judge bench will deliver its verdict in petitions challenging the constitutionality and legality of the removal of the former Deputy President.

Parties in the matter concluded their submissions before the court on May 22. Gachagua’s lawyers raised 18 grounds challenging the impeachment process.
