DCI Launches Manhunt for Suspect Linked to Missing Four Year Old Child in Nakuru

By Andrew Kariuki

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a manhunt for a suspect wanted in connection with the disappearance of a four-year-old child in Nakuru County.

According to the DCI, the child was reported missing at Mwariki Police Station on June 11, 2026, prompting investigations by detectives from multiple specialized units.

Investigators allege that as family members continued searching for the missing child, the suspect attempted to demand a ransom, further escalating the case.

Acting on intelligence gathered during the investigation, detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU), working alongside officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and Mwariki Police Station, tracked the suspect to a residential compound in the Quarry area of Rongai.

However, police said the suspect managed to escape after noticing detectives closing in on him. He allegedly fled into nearby informal settlements and has remained at large since then.

A subsequent search of the room where the suspect is believed to have spent the night led to the recovery of a mobile phone and other personal items. Detectives also recovered a mother-and-child clinic booklet bearing the details of another minor from Nakuru County, a discovery that investigators say has raised additional concerns and broadened the scope of inquiries.

The DCI has appealed to members of the public to assist in locating the suspect and urged anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

Members of the public can also provide information anonymously through the DCI’s Fichua Kwa DCI reporting platform, the toll-free number 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

Investigations into the disappearance of the child are ongoing.
