Kiambu Law Courts was this morning heavily guarded as Former Governor Mike Sonko was presented in court. The unusual heightened security saw the barring of journalists from reporting over the matter. – By Gerald Gekara.
Mike Sonko is accused of several counts of violence and assault, while raiding a piece of land belonging to a private developer in Buruburu, Nairobi County.
Mike Sonko was today presented to Kiambu Law Courts to face the charges, afterspending the night behind bars in Muthaiga Police Station cells.
The incident in question dates back to May 2019, when governor Mike Sonko forced his way into a private developer’s land parcel, who’s owner was demolishing an existing church building.
Sonko halted the demolition and promised to target the property of the man behind the demolition.


The charges which caught Kenyans by surprise, are different from Sonko’s allegations of colluding with state officers to sabotage and fan violence during the 2017 disputed poll.
Since his ouster from office, Mike Sonko has gone charm offensive on state activities, on several occasions accusing the president of misconduct, black mail among other allegations.
