The Sports Ministry headed by Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed has halted the construction of the Wote Stadium over slow progress of work. – By Gerald Gekara.
The angered CS Amina instructed the contractors; Nitram and Traaphes Enterprise Limited. to vacate the stadium with immediate effect, handing over works to the National Youth Service.
CS Amina, who was accompanied by Labour CS Simon Chelugui and Sports Kenya chairman Fred Muteti said the sluggish progress was tainting the government’s agenda on sporting activities.
“I was here in June 2020 and the PS has been coming here very frequently and we have a fantastic briefing on this project. The contractor has always promised to achieve completion in the given timeline but it has never worked,” CS Amina said.
So far, the Stadium works have stagnated at 35pc, after the contractor was paid 45pc of the total money (Sh 350M) set aside for the completion of the project.
