The Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020 spearheaded by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was tabled in the legislature.

The introduction of the Bill concurrently in both the National Assembly and the Senate comes after the endorsement by 43 County Assemblies surpassing the requisite 24.

The document will be delegated to the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs in the National Assembly chaired by Kangema legislator Clement Kigano.

The Senate delegated the BBI Bill to the Standing Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs, and Human Rights under the leadership of Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni.

So far, only three counties; Baringo, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet rejected the BBI bill.

Should the bill be considered by the national assembly, Kenyans are expected to vote on the proposals in a national referendum by June.

BBI protagonists have urged those opposing to reconsider their positions and present a second amendment to the people to decide.

In recent developments, DP William Ruto distanced himself from allegations that he will spear head the NO campaign.

The bill has so far seen the re-alignment of political factions, with the slow and painful death of NASA, and the loud implotion of the ruling Jubilee Party.
