25 students undertaking their studies at Moi University have been arraigned before court for violating the dusk to dawn curfew. – By Gerald Gekara
All 25 pleaded guilty to the offence that occurred in Eldoret town, Uasin Gichu county.
According to their attorney, Mr. Ombego, the students were from school where they allegedly attended a night vigil for a student who’s parent had passed on after contracting COVID-19.
Owing to records that they were first time offenders, the defense argued that the court should only give them a warning.
The Eldoret Law Courts directed that the students be fined Ksh. 1,000 each or face a jail term of one month.
The police have intensified crackdown on curfew offenders, with the recent being 57 club revelers who were subjected to community work in Nairobi.
