COVID Cases Subside As Deaths Hit 5,554

The Ministry of Health said on Sunday that 91 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, out of a total of 3,229 people tested.

This represents a positivity rate of 2.8 percent. 

Kenyans account for 71 of the incidents, while foreigners account for 20; 51 men and 40 women are involved. The smallest is an 11-month-old baby, and the oldest is 101. 

The total number of verified positive cases is currently 320,229, with 3,186,286 tests completed so far.

The cases were distributed across various counties as follows: Nairobi 45, Meru 7, Siaya 6, Mombasa 5, Kisumu 4, Nakuru 4, Homa Bay 4, Kiambu 3, Murang’a 3, Busia 3, Garissa 2, Kilifi 1, Narok 1, Migori 1, Nyamira 1 and Nyeri 1.

The Ministry said 1,814 patients recovered from the disease; 1,676 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 138 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries rose to 291,361.

Twenty-three patients are reported to have succumbed to the coronavirus disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the month of September 2021 and January 2022.

This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,554.

A total of 746 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,011 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

40 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 38 of them on ventilatory support while two of them are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 172 patients are on supplemental oxygen and all of them are in the general wards.

No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

The CS said a total of 11,542,128 vaccines have been administered across the country as of January 22, 2022.

Of these, 6,315,808 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 5,074,497.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 18.6%.
