HAKI Africa Scorns Al-Shabaab Attack On Magistrate

Human rights activists organization, HAKI Africa has come out to condemn the attack on judicial officers along the Garsen-Witu-Lamu road.

In a tweet sent via their online channel, HAKI Africa said the state must protect all judicial officers.

“The judiciary is an integral part of Kenya’s justice system and play an important role in advancing the rule of law and ensuring fairness to all Kenyans. We call on the government to ensure judicial officers are accorded the highest security possible particularly those working in and around risky security zones such as Lamu.”

Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Rotich and his entourage of judicial officers escaped unhurt.

The incident that occurred in Lamu East, according to a police report documented at Witu.  

The Judicial officers were traveling from Kipini, in a convoy of three vehicles when the attack occurred.
