Following a full council meeting, Embu Governor Martin Wambora was unanimously elected chairman of the Council of Governors.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae, who also retained his seat, will be Wambora’s deputy.
“Delayed release of the remaining amount of the equitable share to counties is harming their response to the drought situation in the country, especially in the most hit,” Wambora said.
The first chairman was Isaac Ruto, who was then succeeded by Peter Munya, the current CS for Agriculture.
Governor Nanok took over in 2017 before handing over the leadership button to Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya in 2019.
H.E Martin Wambora took over the leadership in January 2021.
