Former Nairobi governor Dr. Evans Kidero has been ordered to pay over Sh400 million in tax to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
This is after he failed to establish the monies were generated and used for political campaigns.
Dr Kidero had the burden of proof to show that the funds raised for the campaigns were actually used for that purpose, according to High Court judge David Majaja.
The Commissioner’s audits revealed that the former governor’s fundraiser revenues were combined with other business proceeds and put into his personal bank accounts.
