Bhang Traffickers Slapped With 50-Year Jail Term

A Wajir court sentenced two men to 50 years in prison and fined them 63 million dollars for narcotics trafficking.

Senior resident magistrate Mugendi Nyagah handed down the harsh sentence to the accused Mohammed Oloo and Abraham Hassan after they were apprehended by investigators while ferrying a cargo of cannabis sativa valued Sh21 million.

On April 4, 2021, the two were apprehended in Athibool, Wajir county, while transporting 700kgs of the illegal narcotic to Nairobi. The lorry transporting the load had been partitioned into compartments at the top, where the narcotic, disguised as cement bags, was securely hidden.

The second accused, Abraham Hassan, who skipped court, was sentenced in absentia and his Sh1 million bond was forfeited to the State.

As a result, a warrant for his arrest was issued, and detectives went on the lookout for him.

Meanwhile, the lorry’s owner has been given 14 days to show cause why the vehicle should not be forfeited to the state.
