Sonko Lands Wiper Ticket To Join Mombasa Governor Race

The Wiper Democratic Movement has given former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko a direct nomination ticket to run for the governorship of Mombasa County in the August General Election. 

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka presented Sonko with the ticket at a ceremony in Nairobi on Thursday. 

Sonko’s name was submitted to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) almost two weeks ago as one of those who had been cleared to run in the party’s primaries by the Musyoka-led party.

Mike Sonko will now face Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar (UDA) and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir (ODM), both of whom are running for the county governorship.
