Sabina Chege, a Murang’a Woman Representative, has announced that she will not run for re-election in August.
Chege also announced on Saturday that she will not run for office in Murang’a County.
“Finally, the Holy Spirit has spoken, and I will not be vying for any elective position in Murang’a County,” Chege wrote on social media.
“In Azimio La Umoja Council, I will concentrate on national politics,” she said.
Chege is one of 11 members of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s powerful Azimio Council, which is chaired by him.
The first-term lawmaker had been rumored to be interested in the Murang’a governorship.
Chege has been outspoken in his support for the Azimio’s presidential candidate, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Chege is the Chair of the National Assembly’s Health Committee in Parliament.
