Celta Vigo striker Santi Mina has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Mina, 26, will file an appeal against the verdict and, if the appeal is denied, will be sentenced to prison.

After being accused of being an accomplice, David Goldar, a player for Spanish second-tier side Ibiza, was found not guilty.

Mina was accused of rapping a woman in a camper van while traveling with Goldar in 2017. Goldar, according to her lawyer, did nothing to prevent Mina from rapping her.

According to Mina and Goldar, the woman gave her consent to their sexual relations.

Mina was also cleared of a charge of sexual aggression, which is linked to intimidation or violence against the victim.

The striker was with Valencia at the time, but in 2019 he returned to his boyhood club Celta.

Celta have removed Mina from the squad pending the outcome of the appeals process, as well as initiating disciplinary proceedings against the former Spain Under-21 international.

The lower court’s decision can be appealed to Spain’s Supreme Court.

Mina was sentenced to eight years in prison by the state prosecutor, while the victim’s lawyers demanded nine and a half years.

Mina has appeared in over 150 games for Celta in two spells with the club, scoring 11 goals in 40 games this season.
