Bakee Mtaani Program Launches Another Basketball Court

KFC Kuku Foods, in collaboration with the Jonathan Jackson Foundation (JJF), launched and handed out a full-size FIBA standard basketball court at Humama public grounds in Kayole as part of the Bakee Mtaani program.

The launch and handover to Divine World Parish (DIWOPA), which provided the land, for onward availability to the community comes exactly two months after KFC Kuku Foods, which funded the project entirely, and Jonathan Jackson Foundation (JJF), which oversaw construction, announced their partnership during a groundbreaking ceremony at the same location.

Sports Kenya Director General Pius Metto praised the two big firms’ initiative and emphasized its significance in addressing the country’s lack of sports facilities.

“This launch is a progressive initiative to ensure young, talented and disadvantaged sportsmen and women are given an opportunity to discover, develop and showcase their talents.

“As a Ministry, we acknowledge with tremendous gratitude the support and commitment exhibited by sponsors, community leaders, partners and other stakeholders.

“The Ministry appreciates Jonathan Jackson Foundation, KFC and Devine Word Parish, Kayole for this exemplary partnership,” he said.

Bakee Mtaani is a ground-breaking community sports initiative that has established basketball courts as safe spaces among Nairobi’s informal settlements and neighborhoods.

The new court at Umama joins three others in operation in Nairobi County’s Dagoretti North Constituency: Gatina Primary School, HGM Primary School, and Riruta Stadium.
