Grade 6 Learners Set For Junior Secondary Placements

Junior secondary school (JSS) will consist of Grades 7, 8, and 9 under the competence-based curriculum (CBC).

The Education Ministry has announced that grade six pupils will choose junior secondary schools for placement next month.

The online portal will be open from August 15th to August 30th.

Speaking to the press on Friday, July 22, CS Magoha stated that the 1.27 million Grade 6 pupils will sit for the national exam on November 28 – 30.

The exams will constitute 40 per cent of the total score while the Grade 4, 5 and 6 school-based assessments will make up the remaining 60 per cent.

According to CS Magoha, 2.51 million learners are expected to join secondary school in January 2023.

He also stated that approximately 1.27 million students will graduate from Grade Six and another 1.24 million will enter high school after taking the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

KNEC has already issued guidelines for the Grade 6 exam, which is scheduled for November.
