Family Of Girl Who Died With Msando Yet To Get State Help

On the fifth anniversary of their killings, the family of a 21-year-old college student who was assassinated alongside former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT manager Chris Msando has broken their silence.

Caroline Ngumbo’s body was discovered alongside Msando’s in a thicket in Kikuyu, Kiambu county, on July 31, 2017.

Caroline’s sister Jedidah, who was privy to the relationship between her sister and the ICT manager, told NTV that the two were in love.

According to the family, Msando, 44, and the 21-year-old had been dating for roughly a year before their deaths.

Jedida stated that on the fateful night that Msando went missing, a few days before the 2017 General Election, Msando called Caroline and asked her to go wait for him elsewhere because he had another meeting.

“She (Caroline) told me that Chris had a meeting. And when Chris left the meeting, he called her and told her he had another meeting and so she should go somewhere and wait for her,” the deceased’s sister narrated.

As their clandestine affair went on, Caroline’s mother was oblivious to it. She would find out that her daughter had a close relationship with Msando when they were both found dead.

“I even wondered where they met. I asked Shiku (Jedida) to explain to me how Carol and Msando met,” the mother said.

Jedida gave more details about the lovebirds affair saying: “When she was staying in Naivasha, they would even call me with Chris. We were in Naivashia together and Chris would come to pick her and bring her to Nairobi,” she narrated.

Five year down the line, Caroline’s family has never healed from their daughter’s death, a situation that has been made worse by the delayed justice in her death.

“They were all human beings. They should not have investigated the death of one and left out the other,” Caroline’s mother said.

“Caroline did not work for government and maybe that is why she was treated differently. It was unfair because she was also a human being,” Jedida said
