Traders and residents in Lokichar town, Turkana South sub-county, are protesting an increase in armed robberies that have resulted in the death of one trader and the injury of six others in the last three months.
Three workers at Weiwei Supermarket were seriously injured in the most recent incident, which occurred on Saturday evening.
Traders are now afraid of stocking their stores or going home. They accuse the town’s police officers of being sluggish.
Residents demanded increased security and the repair of vandalized street lights.
