The High Court has ordered the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to freeze nine properties and 11 vehicles belonging to a Nairobi County Procurement Officer over alleged graft.
The EACC, in a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, said Michael Auka Ajwang’s wealth was flagged as it was not commensurate with his known source of income.
The commission stated that Ajwang earned a net monthly salary of Ksh.21,000 between January 2014 to June 2022, thereby amounting to a total of Ksh.2,122,232.56 within the period.
However, within the same duration, Ajwang allegedly received money totaling Ksh.40,847,000 that EACC suspects are bribes from companies awarded tenders by Nairobi City County.
“Pending conclusion of investigations, EACC has obtained preservation orders prohibiting the transfer or disposal of or other dealing of the assets suspected to be proceeds of corruption pursuant to section 56(1) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act,” read the statement.
The assets since seized by the EACC are nine pieces of land acquired in Siaya, Kisumu and Nairobi counties, as well as 11 vehicles and a three-star hotel dubbed ‘The Hydeout Riviera Limited’ situated on the Kisumu-Bondo road.
The hearing of the case was set for September 22, 2022.
