Cleophas Malala’s mother has broken her silence following a raid on her son’s Mililani home in Kakamega by Directors of Criminal Investigation officers and police.
Malala’s mother stated in a video that has since gone viral that the raid was politically motivated.
She questioned why the DCI officers had raided the home yet her son had conceded defeat.
“Fernandes Barasa already won as Kakamega’s Governor, let him relax. This is unfair, you cannot torture my son like this, he is not a criminal so leave him alone!”
Mama Malala also claimed that the officers had a sinister motive for breaking into the house despite being told that the politician was not present.
“We learnt that the police were here when we were at home. Cleo is young and he has a long way to go.
“Why do they want to arrest my son? As a mother I can not stand this kind of intimidation,” she stated and demanded to know what charges they wanted to pin on her son.
The witchhunt, she claimed, was orchestrated by the outgoing governor of Kakamega, Wycliffe Oparanya, who she claims has been torturing her son.
Mama Malala stated that her son would not have intimidated his opponents if he had won the election. The senator’s family has urged Azimio La Umoja leaders, including President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, to rein in their leaders, claiming that threats and intimidation will further divide the country.
They also urged President-elect William Ruto not to use state institutions to intimidate political opponents.
Earlier, at 1:30 p.m., police allegedly raided Malala’s home to arrest him.
According to police sources, the former senator was wanted for assaulting politician Joseph Oyolo during the Kakamega governorship election.
However, they found the gate locked but gained access by breaking the padlocks.
