Uganda Reduces Gatherings To Curb Ebola

So far, the country has confirmed seven Ebola cases, including one death - a 24-year-old man who died on Tuesday

As the Ebola Virus Disease spreads, health officials and civic leaders in Mubende District have suspended the operations of entertainment centers and limited the number of people attending burials and weddings (EVD).

So far, the country has confirmed seven Ebola cases, including one death – a 24-year-old man who died on Tuesday.

According to Health Ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyoona, a child’s death in the area has been linked to possible Ebola.

The district Ebola taskforce in Mubende imposed restrictions on visits to public offices, mirroring standard operating procedures (SOPs) to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Ms Rosemary Byabashaija, the Mubende Resident District Commissioner who also serves as the head of the Mubende Ebola taskforce, stated that allowing gatherings to continue would endanger people’s lives because the virus spreads quickly through physical contact.

“Because Ebola is spread through body contact and can be highly spread in congested areas, we have decided to suspend entertainment venues, congested areas, limit the number of people attending weddings, and introductions,” she explained.
