Woman Fined Ksh1 Million Over Fake Canadian ‘Green Card’

Diana Moraa Nyaigoti might find herself spending close to two years in prison after she was convicted of the offence of traying to exit Kenya using fake documents.

She was arraigned in court today where she faced charges of presenting a fake Canadian High Commission later confirming the loss of her Canadian Resident Card.

She was also charged with presenting a fake Canadian Resident Card in order to depart the Country to Toronto, Canada.

She pleaded guilty to the charges stating that she was duped by an agent that he could make documents for her to go to Canada.

She pleaded with the forgive her saying that she need to go and take care of her Children.

In passing the sentence, SPM Bernard Ochoi said that the court has considered her mitigation and noted that she was remorseful. However, he ruled that the purpose of the sentencing is to ensure that she was accountable for her mistakes.

According to the Court, the lady voluntarily engaged in the unlawful act, hence she deserved a deterrent punishment.

She was sentenced to serve 1 year and 9 months in prison or pay a fine of Ksh 1 million.
