Gareth Southgate Names England’s World Cup Squad

The England World Cup squad has been announced with Gareth Southgate making some big calls ahead of the tournament in Qatar.

The England boss’ 26-man squad was announced on Thursday afternoon, and there are some notable omissions in the squad despite several stars missing out due to injury.

The big winners were Leicester City’s James Maddison and Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, whose recent form saw them earn a place in the squad.

However, West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, Brentford striker Ivan Toney, and James Ward-Prowse miss out, as do defensive duo Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi, while fellow former Chelsea academy graduate Tammy Abraham’s poor domestic form in Serie A has cost him a place too.

The Three Lions face Iran in their Group B opener on November 21st, before games against Wales and the USA.
