President Ruto Replaces PS Nominee

Following the resignation of Caroline Nyawira, President William Ruto has nominated Mary Muthoni as the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Correctional Services.

The changes were communicated to the National Assembly through a letter addressed to Speaker Moses Wetangula on Thursday, November 10.

Wetangula stated that the replacement was necessary due to the withdrawal of Nyawira, who expressed disinterest in participating in the process.

“The President has nominated Miss Mary Muthoni Muriuki for appointment as PS for the state department of correctional services. He indicates that Caroline Nyawira Murage withdrew her candidature for this position. The president seeks approval for this nominee by NA for appointment and requests that her approval is undertaken on a priority basis,” Wetangula announced.

Moreover, the Speaker directed that Muthoni’s nomination be published in a newspaper before she is vetted by the Committee on Appointments.

Wetangula also directed that the vetting committee present a report to the floor of the house before the MPs go on recess on November 29.

Nyawira was appointed to the Ministry of Interior’s state department last week.

She was one of 51 nominees whose names were submitted to Parliament for consideration and vetting.

The nominated PSs will appear before various committees beginning Monday, November 11.

The PSs’ vetting will be completed on November 18.
