Kevin Macharia Ikoroi appeared before magistrate Bernard Ochoi and denied several counts of conspiracy to defraud, false pretenses, forgery, and uttering false documents.
Macharia was charged with conspiring to obtain Ksh 9,421,272 from ANKIT GENERAL TRADING LLC on various dates between April 14,2022 and April 18,2022, with intent to defraud, jointly with others not before the court, by falsely claiming that he would supply them with 4,540 Kilograms of Macadamia (Kernels) size 20.
In another count, the accused was charged with obtaining that money on similar dates and locations.
He is also accused of forging a certificate of origin from the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry dated April 28,2022.
The accused was also charged of knowingly delivering the forged document to the Kenya National Chamber director.
Macharia was also charged with forging a phytosanitary certificate that purported to be a genuine document signed by a Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) officer.
He was also charged with forging a Bill of Landing for ocean transport, which was signed by MAERSK Kenya Limited.
Macharia was eventually charged with forging a packing list document that purported to be genuine and issued by Standard Global Services.
The accused begged the court to release him on favorable bond terms, claiming that he was ill.
He was supposed to appear in court two weeks ago, but he became ill and the court was notified.
The prosecution claimed that they were not given medical documents and that the accused should plead guilty to the charges.
He was released on a Ksh 2 million bond with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 1million.
