As part of building sector reforms, Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has appointed a newly inaugurated Urban Planning Technical Committee which will approve all building plans and also play a role in building compliance.
The new team consists of Margaret Njuki NEMA, Plan. Racheal Kisiangani- Kenya institute of planners, Arch. Brenda Nyawara from AAK, Stanley Kimani – Nairobi Water, Eng. Jane Mutulili – EBK, Eng. Christine Ogut- IEK, and Dr. Abdulmalik Tuesday Gichuki – KARA.
“We have also set up a multi-agency team that is auditing all buildings in Nairobi for structural integrity and compliance,” he said.
He also added that the county will invite all those who know their buildings are not compliant to come on their own volition for the county to regularize them and make sure they are safe.
