Nominated PS Korir Beat Pregnant Ex-Wife With A Rungu — Court Told

An estranged wife of PS nominee for Ministry of Agriculture Julius Korir has testified in court about being beaten by her husband while naked three days to her delivery.

Evelyne Koech, who couldn’t contain herself on Tuesday, told Milimani senior resident magistrate Caroline Muthoni that Korir had abused her in front of the employees and their oldest kid on previous occasions.

She and Korir were expecting their second child.

“On that terrible day, I was putting our child to bed when my husband stormed in and yelled, “Leo utaniona iko wapi chakula?” And before I could respond, the accused began hitting me. “I was attempting to shield the infant from the slaps,” she explained in court.

She was giving testimony in the case where Korir is accused of attacking her on September 17, 2020, at Ndalat Road in Karen, Nairobi.

I was naked as the accused tore my Dera apart throughout the beatings till I shouted for aid. “Please help, he’s killing me,” she told the Court.

“I was just holding my tummy protecting my child not to get a miscarriage. He was beating me with a rungu as the workers watched mercilessly.

They had been threatened not to intervene. Blood was all over the floor.

I thank God the baby was okay, and I was able to deliver in three days. He used to ask for forgiveness after every beating and I used to forgive him all the years”, she said.

She added that Korir used to document the same on emails for the wrong things he used to do.

CCTV footage taken from the crime scene were played in court, but media was blocked from further coverage of the case due to sensitivity of the evidence involved.
