Karen residents have been forced to devise new strategies to combat the increasing attempts at land grabbing by a syndicate that is currently being investigated by the police.
Duncan Munyua, a Karen Langata District Association (KLDA) official, told Citizen TV on Friday, January 21, that its members were being trained on the tactics used by devious individuals to claim ownership of parcels of land.
Munyua stated that there has been an increase in the number of unknown people claiming ownership of various plots in recent years.
He specifically stated that the new emerging scheme was aimed at elderly homeowners.
“In the last six years, strangers have appeared out of nowhere, claiming to own the land of some of our members.” “The victims are mostly elderly people because some of their children are not present,” he explained.
The officials explained that the syndicate would pose as police officers on several occasions, survey homes for elderly people, and then move in to claim the land.
In one instance, the team revealed that individuals posing as senior cops arrived at an elderly couple’s home and asked them to leave.
The couple then documented the incident on social media, prompting the association to intervene.
Two men were arrested as a result of the incident, with one being charged with impersonating a police officer.
