Former Nairobi County Governor Dr Evans Kidero has suffered a significant blow as a result of today’s court verdict.
Evans Kidero’s attempt to halt a civil suit launched by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to recover Kes. 58 million was dismissed by the Court of Appeal.
The three Court of Appeal Judges, Okwengu, Ochieng and Mativo JJA dismissed the application by former Nairobi Governor
Kidero asked the Appeal Court to block EACC from seizing his 58 million which he said the commission believes to be profits of corruption.
The EACC has subsequently applauded the verdict, adding that it will shorten the time it takes to resolve anti-graft proceedings.
“The ruling creates a good precedent given the many petitions and Judicial Review Applications that EACC faces in the event of concurrent civil and criminal cases against the same parties. The decision will, in effect, reduce the time taken in the disposal of anti-graft cases,” EACC said.
