Kenya To Help Earthquake-Hit Turkey, Syria

Dr. Mutua stated that the collection places for donated things will be communicated in the coming days. 

Kenya has joined the international community in condoling with Turkey and Syria following a horrific earthquake that killed at least 5,000 people.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria.

The earthquake devastated multiple cities and settlements and causing enormous property damage costing millions of dollars. 

The Kenyan government has announced that it will shortly organize the shipping of foodstuffs such as tea, coffee, and nuts to the two countries.

During a joint press conference with Turkish Ambassador to Kenya Mr Subutay Yuksel, Kenyan Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua stated that Kenya stands in solidarity with Turkey and Syria and shares their tremendous suffering as a result of the natural tragedy.

“We have a responsibility to lend a hand to these two nations.I call upon Kenyans to join hands in extending material support that will alleviate human sufferings such as foodstuff, clothing, medical stuff, finances among others,” said Dr Mutua.

Religious groups were also urged to not only pray for Turkey and Syria, but also to make special offerings to help the thousands of families.

Medical professionals and nurses who want to help have been asked to volunteer so that they can be taken to help cater to the injured
