On Saturday, security personnel for retired President Uhuru Kenyatta took cover after a brief standstill occurred during George Magoha’s funeral service.
After ODM leader Raila Odinga, dressed in Luo traditional attire, arrived at the venue, mourners took centre stage, singing praises and songs.
He immediately paid his last respects, shouting ‘Jowi! Jowi!’ to mourners, who responded with Jowi!, while the DJ played music.
The programme was then interrupted for several minutes, forcing Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machagu to interrupt his speech.
Uhuru was immediately surrounded by security guards.
The formation, commonly known as the ‘box formation,’ ensured that Uhuru remained in the centre.
As his aide pointed to his seat, Uhuru was immediately directed to remain seated, with village mourners moving towards the front.
On February 3, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome announced that the security details surrounding Uhuru had been reduced.
Koome confirmed that the changes were part of a reorganization of the National Police Service.
“The commander becomes a superintendent of police after the president retires. The retired president was accompanied by an officer of the rank of assistant Inspector General “He stated.
