A third-year male student from the University of Eldoret is reportedly fighting for his life at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital after allegedly stabbing himself in an attempt to commit suicide.
The male student was found in a pool of blood alongside his girlfriend’s body at her house in Sogomo estate, on the outskirts of Eldoret town.
According to the police, the male student, Elkana Korir, stabbed his lover, a second-year student at the same university, before turning the knife on himself after an argument.
According to police, Korir is still a suspect.
“The suspect had visited the young lady in her rented house outside the university premises where an argument ensued,” said the Soy Sub-county police commander Henry Zuma.
“We have lost a very young girl following what is suspected to be a love triangle. The suspect who attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself using the same knife was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for treatment,” Zuma continued.
“The male student is continuing to receive treatment at the hospital,” said Zuma.
The deceased’s body was taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
Zuma stated that the police are continuing their investigation while they wait for the suspect to regain his strength so that he can be interrogated.
